I would like to welcome all the teachers and students back to school and trust that you had a great Summer and are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning new things and establishing new friendships.

This year Alberta celebrates its 100th year as a province in Canada. As a result of our centennial year, the Government of Alberta has decided to pay tribute to Albertans who have helped to make our province the best place in the world to work, live and visit. What makes our province so special is the spirit of hard work, combined with compassion that Albertans seem to possess. As an MLA, I’ve had the opportunity to witness this spirit in so many different situations and in so many different forms. We are entrepreneurial by nature and we are very driven towards success. But, as busy as we are, we always find the time to help others. The fact that Albertans have the highest levels of volunteerism per capita in Canada shows us just how true this statement is. In August, I had the pleasure of presenting a silver 2005 Alberta Centennial Commemorative Coin on behalf of the Government of Alberta to people in my constituency who have made valuable contributions to our society and who have helped to make Alberta such a great place. They really are great citizens who are deserving of recognition and thanks. I wish I had more coins to present, as I know that there are many more great Albertans in Calgary Bow that have given themselves for the betterment of everyone around them. As well, I would like to thank all those who took the time to submit recommendations for these recipients.
