MLA Legislature Report
Alana DeLong, MLA

Speech From the Throne: The speech outlines a new approach
by the Alberta government that reflects the values and priorities
of Albertans. The five priorities are: governing with integrity
and transparency; managing growth pressures; improving Albertans'
quality of life; providing safe and secure communities; and building
a stronger Alberta. The speech also re-affirmed the government's
commitment to protecting the environment and addressing climate
change. Plans include Canada's first legislated greenhouse gas emission
intensity reduction targets for large industrial emitters. Highlights
of the speech also included the government's plans to address pressures
on housing, labour, infrastructure and the environment; develop
a comprehensive energy strategy that will ensure sustainable resource
development and environmental stewardship; develop a long-term capital
plan to address infrastructure needs and inflation costs; finalize
a sustainable long-term funding arrangement with municipalities;
and develop a surplus management policy. Please feel free to call
my constituency office if you’d like to receive a full copy
of the Speech From the Throne by mail. Also, the speech is available
online at www.alberta.ca.
