MLA Legislature Report
Alana DeLong, MLA

Landlord-tenant dispute resolution service opens doors in Calgary:
Landlords and tenants in Calgary will now be better able to settle disputes outside
the courtroom. Alberta's Residential Tenancy Dispute Resolution Service (RTDRS) is expanding
to Calgary and area, and will begin accepting applications from landlords and tenants on
June 16. Tenants and landlords wanting to resolve disputes about issues such as security
deposits, rent arrears, evictions and damages can have the matter heard by a tenancy dispute
officer. The fee for the service is $75. The decision by the tenancy dispute officer is
binding on both parties. The Calgary RTDRS office will be located on the main floor of the
Rocky Mountain Plaza, 230 - 7th Avenue SE. More information on the service is available
at www.rtdrs.alberta.ca or dial toll-free 310-0000 then 780-644-3000.
Local family violence and bullying prevention projects benefit from $3 million in provincial funding:
Individuals, families and communities across the province are sharing $3 million from the
Government of Alberta in support of their local efforts to find solutions to family violence
and bullying. The province's Community Incentive Fund supports initiatives that increase the
awareness of family violence and bullying and address topics such as abusive relationships,
cyber-bullying, and abuse of older adults. The fund encourages community groups to work
together to address these issues through coordinated actions and services. Examples of this
year's 93 projects include a teen mentorship program on building healthy relationships,
information and support on family violence for immigrant communities, and the development of
an anti-bullying video. I want to congratulate both Pathways Community Services Association
and Sonshine Community Services of Calgary Bow who each received $75,000.00 toward programs to
combat family violence and bullying to ensure Albertans live in safe and secure communities.
For a complete list of the projects receiving funding in 2008, please visit
www.familyviolence.alberta.ca. Over 400 community-based
projects have received more than $15 million in Community Incentive Fund support since 2004.
Best wishes for a safe and enjoyable
Summer!
